Ocean & Climate Sustainability
SUST 2040 Ocean and Climate Sustainability is a new global challenge course open to all majors. In this discussion based course, students learn about (1) the scientific evidence for anthropogenic impacts on our oceans and our climate, (2) the challenges of communicating information about sustainability issues to the general public, and (3) best practices for measuring the impact of shared social media artifacts on controversial topics. Students create and study the impacts of their own social media artifacts related to the topic of ocean and climate sustainability.

Marine Ecology
BIOL 4480 Marine Ecology is a critical thinking course where discussions and in-class learning experiences reinforce the lectures to provide a more applied understanding of marine conservation biology. Using case studies and data analysis exercises, student will learn how to tackle the toughest problems we face in saving our oceans in the face of climate change. The honors and graduate sections will develop independent conservation plans of their own design.

Biological Inquiry
BIOL 8400 Understanding Biological Inquiry is a online course designed for middle school and high school science teachers that want to develop inquiry-based activities for their own classes. Part of the ten course series in our online MS degree program for teachers, Understanding Biological Inquiry teaches principles of experimental design and analysis as well as critical-thinking active-learning pedagogy for the science classroom. Teachers will develop one laboratory and one field experiment lesson plans for use in their own classes.
